Thank you for your interest in Catholic High School for Boys. Each year, Catholic High School admits approximately 200 young men into our freshman class. For information on the application process please see below.
*Please note: If your son attends a Catholic parochial school you do not need to fill out an application for enrollment. However, he is expected to take the entrance exam.
Students from non-parochial schools can schedule a date to shadow a current freshman student. Shadow days are offered in the fall and winter. Prospective students arrive on the scheduled day and time and attend all afternoon classes and activities.
Prospective students and parents are invited to the campus to visit with teachers and learn more about the academic offerings of the school.
Senior students will provide a tour. Attendees then go to the gym to visit with the coaches and learn about the extracurricular activities offered.
There is no need to pre-register for the exam. Your son just needs to show up on Saturday.
The entrance exam is designed to provide a foundation by which the academic progress of each student can be assessed. It is not a “pass-fail” exam. Instead, it is designed as an instrument to help us predict the potential success in Catholic High’s rigorous system. Your son should not fret about the exam, but he should most certainly take it seriously.
Requirements on entrance exam day:
1. He is to wear khaki pants, a button-down shirt, and a tie.
2. He is to bring $5.00 for the testing fee.
3. He should bring a #2 pencil.
Student interviews will take place in March. Selected applicants, accompanied by one or both parents, will meet with the principal, Mr. Steve Straessle.
Applicants for ninth grade will be informed of acceptance or non-acceptance by the end of March.
The freshman orientation meeting is for all incoming freshmen and their parents. Incoming freshmen receive their entrance exam scores and learn more about what it means to be a “Catholic High boy.”
Growing up with an older brother that went to Catholic High, I knew I wanted to be a part of what he always referred to as “The Brotherhood.” I love that I’m able to explore so many of my interests, from joining Broadcast Journalism and JROTC my freshman year to becoming president of the drama club as a junior. As I get ready for college in two short years, I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given at Catholic High that will help me stand out in the application process.
