The AAA has partnered with PlayVS to bring esports to high schools throughout Arkansas. Esports, or competitive gaming, is the fastest-growing high school sport in the country and, much like traditional sports, requires teamwork, critical thinking and communication to achieve success. However, esports goes ever further to create a barrier-breaking, all-inclusive environment with a strong sense of community. All games are selected based on their competitiveness and strategy, and are rated E for Everyone.
Catholic High currently competes in the Rocket League, a 3 on 3 game similar to soccer.
The games for ESports are Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch, Madden, and they are beginning to release Fortnite and are updated fairly frequently.
There is a fall season and a spring season. The current cost to participate is $32.
Growing up with an older brother that went to Catholic High, I knew I wanted to be a part of what he always referred to as “The Brotherhood.” I love that I’m able to explore so many of my interests, from joining Broadcast Journalism and JROTC my freshman year to becoming president of the drama club as a junior. As I get ready for college in two short years, I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given at Catholic High that will help me stand out in the application process.
